Professor Dr Rosmawati Mohamed, serving as a Consultant Hepatologist at the University Malaya Medical Centre, holds significant roles in global and regional hepatitis initiatives. She is the Founding Co-chairperson of the WHO Strategic and Technical Advisory Committee for Viral Hepatitis, contributing to global efforts in combating the disease. Locally, she assumes the role of Master at the Academy of Medicine of Malaysia, overseeing various medical specialties across the country. Actively involved in the Malaysian Medical Council, she influences policies regarding medical specialists’ recognition, training, and professional development. Additionally, she champions hepatitis and cancer advocacy as the President of Hepatitis Free Malaysia, reflecting her commitment to public health. Her multifaceted roles underscore her dedication to advancing healthcare both locally and globally.
Dr. Reynu Rajan is a highly recognised Consultant Upper Gastrointestinal & Bariatric Surgeon with a strong reputation for clinical excellence and compassionate care. She completed her surgical training at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) & advanced her expertise through subspecialty training in Taiwan and India. Dr. Reynu is a dedicated advocate for improving access to obesity treatment tirelessly working to reduce financial barriers for patients making life changing surgery accessible. As the principal advisor to the Bariatric Buddy Organization (BBO), she supports patients in their weight loss journeys and promotes holistic well-being. Dr. Reynu is also an active educator, contributing to both undergraduate & postgraduate surgical training & serving as co-chair for the writing committee of the 2022 Consensus. Dr. Mengmeng Li is an associate professor in the Department of Cancer Prevention at Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center (SYSUCC). Before joining SYSUCC in 2020 through the “100 Top Talents Program,” she served as a postdoctoral scientist at the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), the specialized cancer agency of the World Health Organization (WHO).
As a cancer epidemiologist, Dr. Li is dedicated to advancing research on cancer prevention. She currently leads multiple national and provincial projects as the principal investigator. Her research focuses on cancer overdiagnosis, lung cancer screening, and health impacts of environmental factors. As first/corresponding authors, Dr. Li has published in several prestigious journals, such as BMJ, Lancet Diabetes Endocrinol, Gut, Nat Commun, Chest, BMC Med.
Ms Ho Chiou Yi is a highly respected clinical dietitian with 15 years of experience in medical nutrition therapy for surgery and oncology patients in government healthcare settings. Ms Ho boasts an impressive academic record. Her dedication to this specialized field is evident in her in-depth understanding of the unique nutritional challenges faced by individuals undergoing cancer treatment or surgery procedures. She is actively involved as part of the nutrition therapy team and her extensive experience allows her to create individualized nutrition care plans that optimize recovery and support overall well-being, especially perioperative medical nutrition therapy in the surgical gynaecologic, colorectal, and upper gastrointestinal cancer cases. This expertise makes her a valuable resource for healthcare professionals and patients alike. After graduating with a Bachelor Science of (Dietetics) at UKM, she continued her research focus with a Master’s in Clinical Nutrition (UPM), achieving a perfect CGPA and the Best Thesis Award. Currently pursuing a PhD, Ms Ho’s dedication to lifelong learning is undeniable. Her dedication to research is underscored by her publications in esteemed journals and numerous conference presentations. Notably, her passion for improving patient care through medical nutrition therapy has earned her prestigious accolades, such as the Dietetic Research Award and the Best Investigator Award which further solidify her reputation as one of the key figures in clinical nutrition research and patient care enhancement.
Professor Dr. Edmund Sim Ui Hang is a distinguished academic at the Biotechnology Programme, Faculty of Resource Science and Technology, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS). With a career spanning three decades, he began as a tutor in 1994 and advanced through the ranks to become a full Professor in 2019. A Genetics graduate from the University of Malaya, he earned his PhD from the University of Queensland in 2000. Professor Sim’s contributions to academia are profound, having developed Bioinformatics and Medical Biotechnology courses and taught extensively in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology. He has supervised 129 undergraduate and 29 postgraduate students, highlighting his commitment to mentorship. His research focuses on Cancer Genetics, particularly the molecular biology of nasopharyngeal cancer. Over 28 years, he has published 192 academic papers and led numerous funded research projects, garnering over RM 4.5 million in grants. His innovative work has earned him accolades like the Innovation Spotlight Award in 2024. Nationally, he serves on key committees, influencing research policies and education standards. His leadership roles at UNIMAS include Head of Molecular Biology Department, Deputy Dean, and university Senate committee member. Currently, he chairs the University Animal Ethics Committee and is the Chief Editor of the Scopus-indexed Borneo Journal of Resource Science and Technology.
Dr Luqman Mazlan is a Consultant Colorectal & General Surgeon and the Medical Director of PJ Integrated Cenrere of Advanced Surgey and Oncology (PICASO Hospital).
He is currently the President of the Asia-Pacific Federation of Coloproctology, Immediate Past President of the Malaysian Society of Colorectal Surgeons, Council Member, College of Surgeons Malaysia, a committee member of the European Society of Coloproctology Global Reach and Colorectal Cancer Survivorship Society of Malaysia
He was formerly the head of Colorectal Surgery and senior lecturer at the National University of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur.
Dr Luqman has a special interest in recurrent and locally invasive colorectal cancers and minimally invasive colorectal surgery. He has multiple publications in peer reviewed journals and is involved in many international trials, research and educational activities related to colorectal surgery and clinical nutrition.
Ms Soo Sek Yow is the Head of Nutrition Unit at Ace Canning Corporation, a leading Malaysian beverage manufacturer, where she spearheads health and nutrition initiatives. Her role involves close collaboration with healthcare professionals, hospitals, academicians and scientific organizations. She also advises R&D and marketing teams to ensure product information and communication materials are aligned with current research.
Holding a BSc in Nutrition and Food Sciences from Utah State University, USA, Ms Soo actively participates in speaking engagements and is passionate about improving public health through evidence-based nutrition and debunking common myths surrounding food and nutrition.
Family Physician, Dr. Nur Amani holds a special interest in tobacco control activities. Dr. Nur Amani was awarded the WHO Hong Kong Tobacco Control Fellowship in 2015. She advocates for tobacco control and has carried out many community-based research projects to curtail tobacco use and its threat to public health. Dr. Nur Amani was formerly the lead person for the University for Society (U4S) Central Zone program, whereby the interventions for mental health were successfully integrated with those for tobacco control. Currently, she is the head of the Henti Elak Basmi Asap Tembakau (HEBAT) program. Dr. Nur Amani has written and co-written numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and books on tobacco control and related public health issues. She currently sits on the Scientific Committee to the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) in Malaysia and was the expert panel member of the Parliamentary Select Committee in the development of the Tobacco Control Act. Dr. Nur Amani is still committed to pursuing evidence-based reforms for healthier communities.
Datin Dr Noraslinah is a Consultant Physician and Head of the Early Detection & Cancer Prevention Services (EDCPS) at Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC), Brunei. She holds a BSc in Medical Sciences from St Andrews University (1993), a medical degree from Manchester University (1996), and a Master’s in Family Medicine from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (2008). She completed Observerships in cancer prevention at MD Anderson Cancer Centre and Mayo Clinic in 2018 and 2019. Before joining JPMC, she served in Brunei’s Ministry of Health as a Senior Medical Officer of Health. In 2019, she led the establishment of EDCPS, Brunei’s first cancer screening centre. The centre focuses on early detection, cancer education, and genetic screening support, and collaborates with the Ministry of Health on national screening programs. She is active in medical education and community health, serving on various committees. She is particularly passionate about health literacy and the prevention of non-communicable diseases.
Dr Jue-Sheng Ong is a data scientist and research entrepreneur with a PhD in Statistical Genetics from the University of Queensland, a Master of Mathematical Sciences from ANU, and an MBA focused on research commercialization. His work sits at the intersection of genomics, data science, research translation and digital health, with a strong emphasis on equitable precision medicine in under-represented populations.
Dr Ong leads the Global Precision Health Lab at QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute in Australia. He is the recipient of a prestigious NHMRC Investigator Grant and was awarded the 2023 QIMRB Postdoctoral Prize. He has contributed to large-scale gene-mapping efforts through international consortia, including the Esophageal Cancer Consortium and the International Genetics of Glaucoma Consortium, and has extensive experience in managing and designing biobank-based research.
His current work spans cancer, neurology, taste biology, and mental health. In Malaysia, he leads GLIMPSE-my—Malaysia’s first precision ophthalmology cohort—and is developing genetic studies on gastro-esophageal cancers and cardiometabolic conditions. In Australia, he is actively building frameworks to support research participation and engagement among culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) and diasporic communities for precision medicine research.
Dr Ong currently serves as Team Head of the Global Precision Health Lab at QIMR Berghofer.
Professor Dr Hamid Jan Bin Jan Mohamed has been a professor at the Nutrition Programme, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) since 2007. He joined this institution immediately after completing his PhD (Nutrition) at King’s College London, United Kingdom.
At USM, he is the Deputy Dean of Research, Innovation and Industry-Community Engagement. He also works closely with the Ministry of Health Malaysia as a committee member of the Technical Working Group for Nutrition Guidelines (Children/Adults/Elderly) and other consultative activities. He is currently the Chairman of Technical Working Group (Nutrition Research) for the Ministry of Health Malaysia and is a Science Advisor of ILSI SEA Region. He is a Council Member of the Developmental Origin of Health and Disease Society (DOHaD). Currently, he is the Vice-President of the Nutrition Society of Malaysia. He is the recipient of the Top Research Scientists Malaysia Award 2024 by Academy of Sciences Malaysia.
Dr Shahril is an Associate Professor at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and is involved in Nutritional Epidemiology and Public Health Nutrition research, specifically in non-communicable disease (including obesity) prevention and control works. He is actively involved in research related to obesity determinants and healthy ageing trajectories among cancer survivors with the support of local and international grants and collaborations. His expertise involves the use of digital technologies in tracking behaviour changes, dietary assessment and nutrition education and promotion. Dr Shahril works hand in hand with government agencies, NGOs, and industries to advocate healthy eating, cancer, and obesity prevention to the public. He has been trusted as a member of the Technical Working Group for Nutrition Research under the auspices of the Ministry of Health Malaysia and is involved in various works related to dietary guidelines revision for Malaysia. He is the Honorary Secretary of the Malaysian Association for the Study of Obesity (MASO) and a Life Member of Nutrition Society of Malaysia.

Dr Shivaani Mariapun is a postdoctoral research scientist in the Cancer Prevention and Population Science (CPPS) research team at Cancer Research Malaysia (CRMY). She graduated from the University of Nottingham (UNM) with a PhD thesis focused on breast cancer epidemiology. She has worked closely with renowned breast cancer researchers, both locally and internationally, for over a decade to understand factors that influence disease susceptibility in Asian women. She is particularly interested in understanding common genetic variation associated with breast cancer risk and the utility of information from breast imaging data for risk prediction for women in our population. Her research leverages one of the largest and most comprehensive Asian cohorts with mammographic, epidemiological and genome-wide genetic data available, and has been published in leading breast cancer research journals. Her most recent publications have been on mammographic density, a strong and heritable risk factor for breast cancer.
Dr. Malwinder Singh earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.B.S.) from Melaka Manipal Medical College in 2006 and later completed a Master of Clinical Oncology (M.Co) from the University of Malaya in 2015. He advanced his skills through specialized training in stereotactic radiotherapy (SBRT/SRS/SRT) at the prestigious Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, and further refined his expertise in Gamma Knife Radiosurgery at Na Homolce Hospital, Prague, Czech Republic. His clinical practice is centered around advanced treatments, including Gamma Knife Radiosurgery for brain tumors and SBRT for prostate and lung cancers. With a special interest in breast, colon, lung, prostate, and brain cancers, he remains dedicated to providing cutting-edge, patient-centered care.

Prof. Leong Chee-Onn is a distinguished cancer biologist with a rich career that spans both academia and genomics innovation. Before establishing AGTC Genomics, he held the position of Deputy Director of Research and Professor at the International Medical University.
He was a Senior Research Fellow at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital. As of now, he is a Fellow of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences (FIBMS, UK), Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology (FRBS, UK), and Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRCS, UK).
Prof. Leong has served as an adjunct professor at Sunway University, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, Universiti Malaya, and the University of Nottingham. His work, particularly focused on oncology and cancer biology, showcases his commitment to advancing healthcare through education and research.
Prof Anand Sachithanandan is a consultant cardiothoracic surgeon to Sunway Medical Center & Subang Jaya Medical Center. He is the founding president of Lung Cancer Network Malaysia (LCNM), a disease-centric NGO dedicated to improving care and outcomes for lung cancer locally. He has championed and pioneered lung cancer screening in Malaysia including adoption of innovative AI-enhanced imaging and use of biomarkers. A strong advocate for multidisciplinary care, under his leadership LCNM has developed several national firsts to enhance lung cancer care including a digital patient navigation guide, a patient counselling tool for specialist doctors and clinical practice guidelines. Prof Anand is a clinical professor at the School of Medical & Life Sciences, Sunway University and adjunct professor in the Faculty of Medicine, University Malaya.
Dr Ang Boon Hong is a statistician and epidemiologist in the Cancer Prevention and Population Science research unit at Cancer Research Malaysia. She earned her PhD in public health and biostatistics from Monash University Malaysia. Her current work focuses on breast cancer prevention and early detection, particularly among Asian populations. She leads population-level risk prediction efforts and has recently developed and refined the ARiCa risk calculator to help identify women who may benefit from genetic testing. Taking it a step further, her goal is to develop new or calibrate existing cancer risk models to inform individuals of their risk and guide effective, affordable screening strategies in low-resource settings through the lens of decision modelling. Building on this, she works closely with local and international experts to support data-driven approaches to cancer control, with a focus on population-level insights.
Dr. Eliana binti Ahmad, MBBS, MPH, DrPH
Dr. Eliana binti Ahmad is a Public Health Medicine Specialist currently leading the National Cancer Control Programmes as well as Surveillance and Registry Unit for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) at the Ministry of Health Malaysia. With a Doctorate in Public Health from the University of Malaya, her work primarily focuses on cancer prevention and control, as well as the epidemiology of NCDs. Over her career, Dr. Eliana has played a pivotal role in shaping national strategies for disease prevention especially NCDs, including expanding cancer screening programs, Lung Health Initiative and managing public health responses to emerging health challenges.
She has contributed to research publications, particularly in addressing the growing burden of NCDs in Malaysia. Her leadership and commitment to public health continue to influence Malaysia’s health policies and systems.
Dr. Felicia Chung is a dedicated cancer cell biologist with a strong background in molecular biology and bioinformatics. Her research centers on cancer epigenetics and cancer cell biochemistry, supported by competitive research grants from agencies in Malaysia, Japan, and France. Dr. Chung has led and contributed to numerous high-impact studies on drug repurposing, immune evasion, epigenetics, metagenomics, and cancer signaling, with publications in leading journals such as Nature Communications, Nature Reviews Cancer, Environmental Health Perspectives, and Nucleic Acids Research. She currently serves as the Programme Leader for the BSc (Hons) Medical Biotechnology programme at Sunway University, where she is passionate about teaching and mentoring students. Beyond academia, Dr. Chung is actively involved in initiatives promoting early cancer screening and has contributed to research and community activities aimed at raising awareness and funds for cancer research. Her work reflects a deep commitment to both scientific advancement and public health.
Professor Cheong is the Chief Scientific Officer at Cancer Research Malaysia and Adjunct Professor at the University of Malaya’s Faculty of Dentistry. Her research focuses on improving cancer patient outcomes, particularly for head and neck cancers, by studying molecular changes and developing innovative treatments like immunotherapy and CRISPR-Cas9-based approaches. She also advances early cancer detection through mobile health tools such as MeMoSA® for oral cancer. Her work is supported by prestigious grants, including those from the Newton Fund and Malaysia’s Ministry of Science. She has received multiple awards, including the IAOP President’s Award, the ASEAN-US Science Prize for Women, and the TWAS Medal Lecture.
Associate Professor Dr. Retnagowri Rajandram from Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya is a pioneer academic scientist among surgeons in Malaysia, establishing their first laboratory. A BSc (Hon I) and PhD holder from University of Queensland Australia since age 25 with active collaboration as their Honorary Associate Professor. She is an advocate for cancer research including renal and colorectal cancers in form of publication and awareness campaigns including among the Orang Asli community. She has achieved several international and national awards from private and public institutions (e.g., 2017 UQ Alumni young distinguished award, the 2018 Malaysian Australian Alumni awards, The UM Excellence Award in 2019 and 2022. Retnagowri was part of the Steering Committee for the National Medical Postgraduate Training the Directors and Trainers for Malaysia between 2020 to 2024. She is also involved in educating Science-based Postgraduates, Malaysian Urologist, Cardiothoracic Surgeons and Oncologist.
Dr Ho Gwo Fuang is a clinical oncologist at Curie Oncology KL, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He was trained at University of St Andrews and Manchester University 1992-1998; Royal Liverpool Hospital NHS Trust, Barts and The London NHS Trust and The Royal Marsden NHS Trust 1999-2007. He attained his Certificate for Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) in 2007 and joined the Faculty of Medicine at Universiti Malaya 2007. He was a Professor of Clinical Oncology and head of Master of Clinical Oncology training programme 2021-2023. He was appointed Adjunct Professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Mangalore, India and M. Kandiah Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Tungku Abdul Rahman, Malaysia 2024. His research interests involve breast, gastrointestinal, and hepatobiliary cancers. He co-authored the Pan-Asian Adapted ESMO Clinical Practice Guidelines for hepatocellular carcinoma (2020) and ASCO Resource Stratified Guideline for Early Detection for Colorectal Cancer (2019) and Treatment of Patients with Early-Stage Colorectal Cancer Resource Stratified Guideline (2019). He is involved in many national and international collaborative research work, as well as the training of new oncologists in Malaysia.
Dr. Tan Chih Kiang is a consultant clinical oncologist at Picaso Hospital, Malaysia, with a strong commitment to improving cancer care. He holds an MBBS and a Master’s in Clinical Oncology from University Malaya.
As the Honorary Secretary of the Malaysian Oncological Society, Dr. Tan works closely with peers to advance oncology education and research. He has contributed as a co-author to international clinical guidelines and participated in numerous clinical trials, taking on roles as both a principal investigator and sub-investigator. He also provides his expertise as an external reviewer for international medical journals.
Dr. Tan played a key role in establishing stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) services in East Malaysia, where he treated the first SRS patient in Sarawak. His clinical interests span gastrointestinal cancers, with a focus on liver cancer, as well as breast, gastrointestinal cancer and head and neck cancer
Dr. Fadhlina, fondly known as Dr. Nina, is a consultant oncologist at Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur. She was a senior lecturer at University Malaya’s Clinical Oncology Department, earning the Excellence Service Award in 2023. Trained at University College London and Barts NHS Trusts, UK, she holds a Master’s in Clinical Oncology. Passionate about medical education, she contributes to Cancer ECHO UM project and is principal investigator on international clinical trials. Notably, she won the highest research grant procured by University Malaya Medical Centre in 2021. In 2023, she won the Japan Society in Medical Oncology Rising Star in Asia Workshop in Japan. Dr. Nina actively publishes research and speaks at public forums on cancer awareness.
I am a psychologist and researcher with a focus on the psychosocial impact of being a cancer patient and family caregiver. I use a broad range of methodologies including research based on registry data, self-reported questionnaires, qualitative interviews and systematic reviews/meta-analysis.
A compassionate Clinical Dietitian with over 10 years of experience, specializing in oncology nutrition, with main interest in Head and Neck cancer. Graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics from Universiti Putra Malaysia in 2009, I have worked at Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah, Kuala Terengganu and Institut Kanser Negara, Putrajaya. With a strong background in clinical audits, research, and innovation projects, I am committed to providing evidence-based and individualized dietary management to cancer patients. In 2022, I was recognized as Runner-Up in Clinical Audit and Second Runner-Up for Research Poster at the Allied Health Scientific Conference in 2023. Regularly provide health talks to healthcare staff and the public on nutrition and its importance in disease prevention and management, particularly cancer-related nutrition. My career goal is to provide continuous, updated nutrition care to cancer patients, respecting their unique backgrounds and beliefs.
Dr Hadi is the Scientific Advisor and the Head of the Professional Development and Scientific Research Department and the Qatar Cancer Society (QCS). Dr Hadi is the representative member of the QCS in the National Cancer Governance Board in Qatar, the Gulf Federation for Cancer Control, the Union International for Cancer Control, the World Cancer Day Advisory Group, the World Ovarian Cancer Coalition, and the All.Can International. He is also an Adjunct Lecturer at the College of Health Sciences at The University of Doha for Science and Technology, preceptor at the Department of Public Health – College of Health Sciences – Qatar University, Psychology and Social Work Master’s Program at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies, and Hamad Medical Corporation community medicine residency program. Dr Hadi graduated from the University of Aleppo – Faculty of Medicine in Syria and completed his post-graduate training at the University of Iowa in the USA. Dr Hadi presented at more than 100 medical conferences and was involved as a Co-PI in research projects that have earnt grants of around half a million dollars in the USA and Qatar. Dr Hadi’s research interests are pediatric diseases, cancer burden, cancer education and awareness, continuing medical education, Knowledge Attitudes Perception studies related to cancer, quality of life of people living with cancer, health literacy, cancer survival studies, equity in cancer care, narrative medicine and cancer, palliative care, the role of civil societies in cancer control, social media and cancer awareness, and efficiency and efficacy in cancer control and public health.

She has led Fundación Aladina for over 19 years, helping shape it into Spain’s leading organization supporting children with cancer and their families. Under her leadership, Aladina is present in 22 hospitals, has completed more than 60 pediatric renovation projects, and supports over 2,000 families annually through comprehensive emotional, psychological, and material care. She remains personally involved, regularly visiting hospitals and staying close to families and care teams. Ishtar has built strong partnerships with medical institutions, international organizations, and corporate allies, and developed innovative fundraising strategies and nonprofit models. Aladina is the first Spanish member of St. Jude Global and an active participant in Childhood Cancer International (CCI). In 2019, she was named a UICC Young Leader Against Cancer, and in 2025, was a finalist in the “Top 100 Women Leaders in Spain” under Public Service and Social Action.

Health economists research into the factors that influence the provider’s costs and the recipient’s change in quality of life and the willingness-to-pay from both a payor and a societal perspective. Kenneth Lee’s research area is focused on both micro and macro levels of health economics with the intention of generating unbiased real-world evidence for the best decision-making in healthcare policy. He has more than 30 years of teaching and research experience in this area with more than 120 publications in international peer-reviewed journals. He is one of the few health economists in Asia who have an international reputation and network. He is the Editor-in-Chief of 2 main international journals of health economics. Melissa, a lecturer at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) since 2022, holds a Pharmacy degree from the University of South Australia (UniSA) and a PhD in Medical Science (Pharmaceutical Nanotechnology) from Okayama University, Japan, under prestigious Malaysian and Japanese scholarships. She co-founded the Society for Cancer Advocacy and Awareness Kuching (SCAN) and actively contributes to cancer and women’s NGOs. Since 2012, she has led breast cancer outreach programs across rural Sarawak, reaching over 40 villages and 30 ethnic groups. Melissa is also a member of MASCC, ESMO, and MPS, with extensive experience in Industry Sponsored and Investigator Initiated Research. She currently leads multiple national and industry-funded grants on women’s cancer.
Prof Yap obtained her PhD from the University of Bristol, UK, and returned to Malaysia as a Principal Investigator focusing on nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). She received a UICC American Cancer Society fellowship to work at the University of Birmingham, UK, before joining Universiti Malaya in 2012. As a leading NPC researcher in Malaysia, her work explores the molecular pathogenesis of NPC and the role of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) in its development. She has identified several oncogenes and tumour suppressor genes, and elucidated how EBV influences NPC gene expression. Prof Yap has published in top cancer journals such as Journal of Pathology, Oncogene, and Nature Reviews Cancer. She has received various national and international research grants as well as research awards. Prof Yap co-founded the NPC Society of Malaysia and currently serves as its President. She was recently appointed by the Ministry of Health as taskforce leader for the NPC expert group in the upcoming National Strategic Plan for Cancer Control (NSPCC).
Professor Ts Dr Goh Bey Hing leads the Sunway Biofunctional Molecules Discovery Centre (SBMDC), Faculty of Medical & Life Sciences, Sunway University, focusing on the biofunctionality and pharmacological applications of diverse molecules. Prof. Dr. Mai Chun Wai is a Professor and Head of the Centre for Cancer and Stem Cell Research at the Institute for Research, Development and Innovation (IRDI), IMU University, Malaysia. He is a fully registered pharmacist with the Pharmacy Board of Malaysia and a Chartered Scientist accredited by the Royal Society of Chemistry (UK). He currently serves as Chairperson of the Young Scientists Network–Academy of Sciences Malaysia (YSN-ASM), where he actively promotes scientific integrity, research excellence, and talent development. He also holds the position of Deputy Chairperson for the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP)–UNESCO University Twinning and Networking (UNITWIN) programme for the Western Pacific region. Dr Voon Pei Jye is the Head and Consultant Medical Oncologist, Department of Radiotherapy and Oncology, Hospital Umum Sarawak (Sarawak General Hospital). He is also an Adjunct Professor Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS).
He read medicine at UNIMAS. He subsequently obtained his MRCP (United Kingdom) and Master of Medicine (Internal Medicine) from National University of Singapore. Thereafter, he received his advanced specialist training in Medical Oncology from National University Hospital Singapore. He has also completed his Phase 1 Drug Development clinical research fellowship at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, University of Toronto, Canada.
He is an active investigator for numerous cancer trials encompassing early phase through to late phase studies. He has keen interest in oncology development therapeutic and thoracic oncology. Dr Teh Kok Hoi is a Paediatric Haematologist & Oncologist at the Paediatric Department of Hospital Tunku Azizah, Kuala Lumpur. He received his post-graduation MRCPCH (UK) certificate in Paediatrics before completing his subspecialty training in Paediatric Haematology & Oncology in Birmingham’s Children Hospital, United Kingdom. Dr Arnil Sirimanne completed his undergraduate studies at Penang Medical College and got his MB BCh BAO (Ireland) degree in 2002. He completed his Master of Clinical Oncology at Universiti Malaya in 2017 and served as a Clinical Oncologist at Hospital Umum Sarawak and Institut Kanser Negara until late 2021. His current interests are stereotactic radiosurgery of the brain, head & neck and urological malignancies. Currently, he is practising as a Consultant Clinical Oncologist at Prince Court Medical Centre in Kuala Lumpur.
Dr. Vetriselvan graduated from Annamalai University in India. His academic career started in 2008 at Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore and have more than fourteen years of teaching and research experience at several universities including the School of Medicine at Arba Minch University, Ethiopia (UNDP program) and the Faculty of Medicine, Bioscience and Nursing, Malaysia. During his Master’s study, he received a sponsored research project from the Natural Remedies Research Centre, Bangalore, in 2007. He has filed eight patents in different countries, including India, Germany, Australia, and South Africa. Moreover, he also published over 135 papers with a cumulative impact factor of 375 plus and published five book chapters. Dr. Vetriselvan also received an internal and external pilot grant in 2021 and 2022. His research interests include synthetic and phyto-based drug development and pharmacological screening (in silico, in vitro, and in vivo) of cancer and metabolic diseases. He is one of the editorial board members of the Journal of Pharmacological Research. He has secured both internal and external grants for his research. Li Ren Kong received his Ph.D. in Cancer Pharmacology from the National University of Singapore, where he studied resistance mechanisms in chemo-refractory tumours. As part of the joint NUHS-Cambridge initiative, he furthered his training at the MRC Cancer Unit, University of Cambridge. In 2022, Li Ren was awarded the prestigious Lee Kuan Yew Fellowship and returned to Singapore to investigate the cell-autonomous functions of population-specific, cancer-associated germline mutations, with the goal of informing precision cancer therapies. He is currently an Assistant Professor at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, where his laboratory focuses on understanding how inter-tumour dynamics drive cancer progression. She serves as a WHO Technical Advisory Group member for Behavioural Sciences, and on the technical committee and working group for Malaysia’s WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control and National Strategic Plan for Non-Communicable Diseases. Prof. Chan is an executive board member of Malaysia’s Medical Research & Ethics Committee and a Deputy Chair of UKM’s Research Ethics Committee. With over 100 peer-reviewed publications, she actively mentors researchers and contributes to public health initiatives across Southeast Asia.
Dr Mark Cheong Wing Loong is a public health and palliative care researcher at the School of Pharmacy, Monash University Malaysia. His work focuses on building better, kinder, and more accessible health systems and healthcare services, as well as how adopting a palliative and supportive care lens can improve healthcare for all. Dr Cheong also studies the lived experiences of people who interact with, use, or work in healthcare systems, as well as unmet needs of people living with complex life-limiting illnesses. Dr Cheong has been a collaborator and consultant with organizations including the World Health Organization (WHO), the Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi), Ministry of Health Malaysia, and the Third World Network on health advocacy projects on palliative care, access to medicines and healthcare, and health inequalities.
Dr Cheong is currently a Visiting Fellow at the United Nations University – International Institute for Global Health, Visiting Scholar at the Maybank ASEAN Research Center at the Asia School of Business, and a Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health (FRSPH, UK). He is also a member of the National Palliative Care Services Development Committee, Ministry of Health Malaysia.
I was a clinical pharmacist at a government hospital under the Ministry of Health, Malaysia, for 15 years. Currently, I am pursuing my PhD at the Social and Preventive Medicine Department, University Malaya, focusing on Comorbidities and Unmet Supportive Care Needs in Individuals with Cancer, with a special interest in cardiovascular comorbidities in this population.
Dr Abdullahi Sheriff is the Managing Director for MSD in Singapore, Malaysia & Brunei, where he is focused on building an organization that is well-positioned to positively contribute to improving the population’s health & well-being. Sheriff is a Vice President of Singapore Association of Pharmaceutical Industries (SAPI) and is member of the Board of Pharmaceutical Association of Malaysia (PhAMA). Sheriff joined MSD in 2020 where he led the global Sustainable Access Solutions (SAS) team responsible for advancing innovative commercial models to expand access to MSD’s medicines and vaccines around the world. Sheriff brings extensive and global experience of Healthcare systems and value based healthcare. Before joining MSD, Sheriff was with GE Healthcare where he started as Partner in GE Healthcare’s Consulting arm operating across Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), before transitioning to Executive, Partnerships & Solutions for GE Medical Systems in Europe. Prior to this, Sheriff spent many years in Consulting in the UK, working with multiple clients, particularly the UK NHS, and leading a range of strategic initiatives. Sheriff holds an Engineering Doctorate and a Master of Science from the Loughborough University in UK. He is married with three children. With over 22 years of experience across both life and general insurance in Malaysia and other emerging markets, Anesh has held a range of roles spanning technical actuarial functions, corporate strategy, pricing, and product development. Dayang Miraffiorry is the Childhood Cancer Program Manager at the National Cancer Society Malaysia. With a background in operations management, training development, and project management, she leads initiatives that support children with cancer and their caregivers through education, support services, and community engagement. Dayang also works on fundraising and resource mobilization, and collaborates with state-based groups to run advocacy campaigns, workshops, and events to improve public understanding and patient experiences.
Dr Vaishnavi Jeyasingam is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist at the Radiotherapy and Oncology Department, Hospital Kuala Lumpur, with over a decade of experience in oncology care. She graduated with an MBBS from the University of Malaya in 2005, receiving the Dean’s List award, and later obtained her Master’s in Clinical Oncology from the same institution. She completed a clinical attachment at the Head and Neck Radiation Unit, Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane, Australia.
Her clinical interests include breast cancer, head and neck radiation, and hematological malignancies, and she also serves sessionally at ParkCity Medical Centre and Subang Jaya Medical Centre. Dr Vaishnavi is a supervisor and external examiner for the Master’s in Clinical Oncology programme at University Malaya and contributes to national oncology curriculum development. She is also an active panel member for clinical practice guidelines and patient access programmes, reflecting her commitment to advancing oncology care and education in Malaysia.
