Professor Dr Hamid Jan Bin Jan Mohamed, a distinguished professor at the Nutrition Programme of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), has made significant contributions to nutrition science since joining USM in 2007, after completing his PhD at King’s College London. He pioneered the first Malaysian birth cohort study in 2009, the USM Pregnancy Cohort Study, which investigates the connections between maternal nutrition and the development of obesity and diabetes in offspring. His research also addresses the prevention of stunting in children and includes studies on breast and colon cancer.
Prof Hamid serves as the Deputy Dean of Research, Innovation, and Industry-Community Engagement at USM. He is deeply involved in national health policy, working with the Ministry of Health Malaysia as a key member and chairman of various technical working groups focused on nutrition. Additionally, he holds positions such as the vice-president of the Nutrition Society of Malaysia and is a Science Advisor for ILSI SEA Region, evidencing his broad influence in the field.
